Food Glorious Food – for all its cultural, nutritional and social reasons, food is an important part of our lives, yet our entire agricultural and food system is based upon the availability of cheap fossil fuels.
In today’s culture of food miles, ready meals and supermarkets, action is needed urgently at community level to make a difference. Improving local self-sufficiency and sustainability of our food systems is going to be key in the transition to a lower energy society – and we hope it’s going to be fun producing fantastic food as well!
Buying, growing and eating locally, organically and seasonally are all important steps as are supporting community projects and initiatives, e.g. Allotments, Farmers Markets, Local shops, and Community Gardens/Orchards.
Composting any green food waste is also good for your garden and reduces waste recycling costs.
